This 17.45 carat, unheated Rwandan amethyst is a large-format pear cut gemstone with a deep, saturated purple that performs differently depending on the light source. In natural daylight it presents as a rich blueish-purple, featuring cool, deep, and even color across the face. Under incandescent or artificial light it shifts into a vivid red-violet, a color behavior that is documented in Rwandan amethyst material and that sets it apart from amethyst from other localities, which typically holds a stable purple across all lighting conditions without this kind of range. At 20 x 15 x 10mm, the stone has significant physical presence and visual weight.

The cut is worth noting specifically. The crown of this stone is faceted in a checkered pattern, featuring a grid of raised square facets that covers the top surface and creates a mosaic-like light return when the stone is viewed face-up or tilted in the hand. This is not a standard brilliant or step cut crown; the checkered pattern multiplies the number of light-reflecting surfaces on the table and upper girdle area, producing a more complex and dynamic play of light than a conventional pear cut would at the same carat weight. The pear's culet at the point remains a single termination, which also functions as a natural energy director for practitioners who work with the stone's vibrational output.

Rwandan amethyst has gained recognition in the gemological community since deposits were discovered in 2015 as among the finest amethyst producing some of the most intensely saturated and evenly colored material available. Critically, Rwandan rough rarely requires heat treatment to enhance or correct its color, whereas most amethyst on the market has been heat-treated to remove brownish or uneven tones and color zoning. This piece is completely unheated and untreated, which means its color, its light behavior, and its energetic field are entirely natural.

WHAT THIS STONE IS USED FOR

One advantage of a faceted gemstone over a rough crystal is the culet, the pointed tip at the base of the stone, which acts as a focused energy director, similar to the tip of a Vogel crystal. By pointing the culet directly at the body, you can concentrate and deliver the stone's vibrational frequencies into a specific point rather than allowing them to radiate outward in all directions.

At 17.45 carats, this stone has enough mass and surface area to serve as a primary anchor stone in a crystal grid, a meditation focal point, or a centerpiece in a body layout covering the crown or third eye. The checkered facet crown maximizes the stone's light-interactive surface, which in a meditation context means the stone draws and holds the eye more effectively than a smooth-crown cut, making it useful as a visual point of entry into stillness and inward focus. The pear's culet point, directed at the crown of the head or the third eye, delivers the violet band's output in a concentrated, site-specific way.

For stone medicine practitioners, this stone is well suited for work at the crown chakra, for meditation support, for etheric revitalization, and for practices requiring the violet band's transmutational and spiritually strengthening properties. Its size also makes it effective as a space anchor. Placed in a room or altar, a stone of this mass radiates its frequency into the environment continuously, making it a practical tool for energetically conditioning a space used for healing or contemplative work.

For collectors, this stone sits at the intersection of gemological and vibrational quality: Rwandan amethyst at this carat weight, with this color behavior, this cut quality, and untreated status is not common inventory. This is the only Rwandan amethyst gemstone I’ve been able to find with this level of saturated color, clarity, size, and exceptional faceting.

VIBRATIONAL PROFILE

Violet Band: Amethyst is among the primary mineral carriers of the violet band in the vibrational spectrum. At the physical level, the violet band builds the spleen and white blood cells, supports the lymphatic system, and has been applied in protocols for serious illness. At the energetic level, it is faster and more penetrating than the white band and amplifies any other vibrational color used alongside it. It produces etheric revitalization and transmutation. At the emotional and mental level, it shifts awareness away from physical-world concerns and toward spiritual focus, promoting higher awareness and consciousness. At the spiritual level, it gives spiritual strength and deepens the effects of meditation.

Amethyst's trigonal crystal structure, a subset of hexagonal symmetry with three-fold rotational symmetry, gives it a specific energetic character within the violet band. The trigonal system's versatile geometry allows it to both stabilize and dynamically redirect energy, and it is specifically documented in crystal science as supporting the calming of the mind and the enhancement of spiritual awareness through the harmonic resonance of its lattice structure. This is not incidental to amethyst's long history of use in meditation and spiritual practice across cultures, but rather a structural property of the mineral itself.

In Rudolf Steiner's system of four ethers, violet corresponds to the life ether, the highest of the four ethers, which penetrates solid matter and governs the physical materialization of spiritual impulses. In Daskalos' archangelic system, violet is the flame of Archangel Raphael, the archangel of healing in the Western tradition, who governs etheric vitality. The alchemical violet flame tradition speaks to violet's core function: the transmutation of denser energetic states into higher, refined ones.

The color shift this stone exhibits, from blueish-purple in daylight to red-violet under artificial light, reflects a transition across the vibrational spectrum at the boundary between the blue-violet and red-violet ranges, which in Spectro-Chrome color science correspond to the spectrum's higher-frequency cooling and containing bands on one end and its emotionally integrative red-violet expression on the other. This stone does not sit fixed at a single point in the spectrum; it moves between two distinct color positions depending on the light it receives, which is a material expression of its range across the higher-frequency bands.

FAQ

JEWELRY

Are the stones and materials you use natural?

Yes! All of the stones we use are high-grade, premium, and 100% natural just as Gaia made them. They are not treated in any way (heat, irradiation, dye, stabilized, etc.) because some treatments alter the vibrational nature of the stone and can be detrimental to the energy field of the wearer. We use either 100% linen or silk thread for our beaded necklaces as they are highly conductive, helping the energy travel powerfully through the piece.

Do pieces come in other sizes or stone combinations?

Each piece made is unique and not made to order. Therefore, this piece cannot be altered and does not come in other sizes or stone combinations. However, if you like this piece and want it longer, made with different stones, or altered in any way, please reach out to request a custom order via the Contact page.

Who made the pieces in your store?

Each piece is handcrafted with intention and love by founder Ashley Sohl. She hand-picks every stone and component that is used, and handmakes each piece with care and attention. We do not believe in mass produced, cookie-cutter jewelry. Sanctuary Vibrational Jewelry makes unique stone ally adornments for inner journeys and personal transformation.

How do you know the vibration of the stones?

The vibrational qualities are painstakingly tested by Ashley using a comibination of ancient and modern vibrational scientific techniques from different schools of thought, including BioGeometry, physical Radiesthesia, New Homeopathy, and more.

Do you use real gold?

Yes! We use solid 14k gold. We recently started offering gold-filled as an option to make pieces accessible to more people. If gold-filled doesn't show up as an option, please contact me to request a custom.

I want a piece that is sold out. What should I do?

Every piece I make is a genuine one of a kind. If you see a piece you like, but is sold out, you can request a custom order to have me make another one. But please be aware that some stones are very rare and I may not be able to source the exact same stones. Use the contact page to send me a message and we can discuss from there.
