The first two names are misnomers, because chrysocolla is not the main coloring agent, and gem silica is often confused with or misrepresented as chrysocolla when they're two different gemstones with very different characteristics. Chrysocolla's hardness is only 2 to 3 on the Mohs scale, while gem silica is much harder at nearly 7 because of its chemical makeup, so buyer beware when a soft stone is offered as gem silica.
