The zoning is slightly visible when the stone is tilted, and is mostly masked by the stone’s intense and saturated color throughout its body. Most amethyst on the market, this banding is eliminated through heat treatment, which dissolves the zoning into a uniform color. The presence of this banding in this stone is confirmation of its untreated status. It is not a flaw. It is the record of how the crystal grew, layer by layer, in the ground, and that history is precisely what you lose when a stone is heated.
