0.73 ct. Johachidolite Baguette - Ultra-Rare Collector's Gemstone

This exceptionally rare 0.73 carat johachidolite features a clean, well-executed baguette cut measuring 8.3 x 3.9 x 2.4 mm. With its vivid golden-orange hue, this untreated gemstone comes from the only known commercial source of gem-quality johachidolite in the world: Mogok, Burma (Myanmar).

Johachidolite is among the rarest gemstones on Earth. First identified in the 1920s, it remains largely unknown outside of high-end gemological and collector circles due to its extreme scarcity. Gem-quality, facetable johachidolite is seldom seen on the market, and even fewer examples possess this level of clarity, color, size, and symmetry. It is prized for its fiery brilliance and exotic origin, making it a coveted acquisition for advanced mineral and gemstone collectors and connoisseurs.

RARITY & COLLECTOR'S APPEAL

Johachidolite stands among the rarest gemstones known. Initially discovered in 1942 in North Korea, gem-quality specimens have since been found exclusively in Myanmar's Mogok region. The majority of faceted johachidolite stones weigh under 0.15 carats, and those exceeding 0.25 carats with both fine color and clarity are exceedingly scarce. With the original Mogok deposit now depleted, high-quality johachidolite gems have become nearly unobtainable, making each piece a significant rarity.

Challenges in Faceting

Cutting johachidolite demands exceptional skill, as rough material is often minute, and the gem’s scarcity means that any mistake can be costly. Cutters must work meticulously to preserve carat weight while enhancing the gem’s natural beauty and brilliance.

Mogok Deposit and Mining Conditions

One of the very few known sources of gem-quality johachidolite is the famed Mogok region in Myanmar. Located approximately 200 km north of Mandalay, Mogok has been renowned for centuries due to its abundance of exceptional gemstones, including rubies, sapphires, and spinels. Johachidolite is among the scarcest finds in this region.

Gem extraction in Mogok often involves traditional, artisanal methods. Miners recover gems from alluvial marble gravels through panning, tunneling, and hand-dug pits, with minimal mechanization. This meticulous and labor-intensive process is essential to isolate rare stones like johachidolite from the metamorphosed limestone (marble) deposits.

Collector Appeal and Market Dynamics

The rarity of johachidolite and the painstaking mining process ensure that only a few specimens ever reach the global market. Even well-informed collectors face challenges acquiring johachidolite. It is often sold quietly in local markets, and foreign buyers must navigate strict regulations, obtaining special permits and adhering to the legal requirements for gemstone export from Myanmar.

Johachidolite’s allure lies in its rarity and the story behind its extraction. Each specimen that reaches the hands of a serious gem collector represents countless hours of labor and a stroke of extraordinary luck. Museums, private collectors, and specialized gem dealers prize this stone for its unique attributes, adding a layer of mystique to any collection that includes a faceted johachidolite.

FAQ

JEWELRY

Are the stones and materials you use natural?

Yes! All of the stones we use are high-grade, premium, and 100% natural just as Gaia made them. They are not treated in any way (heat, irradiation, dye, stabilized, etc.) because some treatments alter the vibrational nature of the stone and can be detrimental to the energy field of the wearer. We use either 100% linen or silk thread for our beaded necklaces as they are highly conductive, helping the energy travel powerfully through the piece.

Do pieces come in other sizes or stone combinations?

Each piece made is unique and not made to order. Therefore, this piece cannot be altered and does not come in other sizes or stone combinations. However, if you like this piece and want it longer, made with different stones, or altered in any way, please reach out to request a custom order via the Contact page.

Who made the pieces in your store?

Each piece is handcrafted with intention and love by founder Ashley Sohl. She hand-picks every stone and component that is used, and handmakes each piece with care and attention. We do not believe in mass produced, cookie-cutter jewelry. Sanctuary Vibrational Jewelry makes unique stone ally adornments for inner journeys and personal transformation.

How do you know the vibration of the stones?

The vibrational qualities are painstakingly tested by Ashley using a comibination of ancient and modern vibrational scientific techniques from different schools of thought, including BioGeometry, physical Radiesthesia, New Homeopathy, and more.

Do you use real gold?

Yes! We use solid 14k gold. We recently started offering gold-filled as an option to make pieces accessible to more people. If gold-filled doesn't show up as an option, please contact me to request a custom.

I want a piece that is sold out. What should I do?

Every piece I make is a genuine one of a kind. If you see a piece you like, but is sold out, you can request a custom order to have me make another one. But please be aware that some stones are very rare and I may not be able to source the exact same stones. Use the contact page to send me a message and we can discuss from there.
